Esomeprazole magnesium is also known as L-omeprazole, esostatazole, and its chemical name is (S)-(-)-5-methoxy-2-{[(4-methoxy-3,5 -Dimethyl-2-pyridyl)methyl]sulfinyl}-1H-benzimidazole magnesium salt. The salt preparation was developed by the Swedish company AstraZeneca and launched in China in 2004; it is a new type of proton pump inhibitor that can inhibit the H+/K+-ATPase activity.
