Idoxuridine  is a pyrimidine antiviral, which can competitively inhibit phosphorylase, especially DNA polymerase, with thymidine nucleoside, thus inhibiting the synthesis of thymidine nucleoside in viral DNA, or infiltrating into viral DNA instead of thymidine nucleoside, producing defective DNA, making it lose its infectivity or unable to reassemble, so that the virus stops reproduction or loses activity and is inhibited.
