In astrocytes cultured under these conditions, 5-aminolevulinic acid significantly increased lipid peroxidation in astrocytes. 5-aminolevulinic acid-mediated sonodynamic therapy demonstrated synergistic apoptosis of THP-1 macrophages, involving excessive intracellular reactive oxygen species production and MMP loss.
