Agmatine is the product of L-arginine decarboxylase (L-ADC) catalyzing the decarboxylation of arginine. It is a neurotransmitter and is distributed in most organs and tissues in mammals. Organ specificity, such as adrenal chromaffin cells, glial cells, and globular cells of the carotid body. Research data shows that agmatine has biological activities such as lowering blood sugar, lowering blood pressure, diuresis, anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant, and inhibiting cell proliferation, especially its antagonistic effect on N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors.
