Pyrethrins are natural insecticides produced by certain species of chrysanthemum plants. It is used to control pests in the home and in agriculture. It is especially suitable for controlling pests that cannot be controlled by organophosphate insecticides.
Natural pyrethrins are contact poisons that rapidly penetrate the nervous system of insects. Insects were unable to move or fly away for a few minutes after application. However, a "knockdown dose" does not mean a lethal dose. Natural pyrethrins are quickly detoxified by enzymes in the insect's body. As a result, some pests will recover. To delay the action of the enzymes to ensure a lethal dose, organophosphates, carbamates or synergists can be added to the pyrethrins.
