Ticarcillin disodium semi-synthetic penicillin is highly effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the clinical efficacy rate for Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection is about 90%. Stable β-lactamase produced by product-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but susceptible to destruction by β-lactamase produced by Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and individual strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It has a synergistic effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa Chemicalbook when used in combination with gentamicin and polymyxin. It is clinically used for sepsis, urinary tract infection, respiratory tract infection and biliary tract infection, as well as secondary infection in patients with leukemia and malignant cells, and is also effective for typhoid fever. Ticarcillin sodium is often combined with clavulanic acid to make a new antibiotic compound, Timentin, which is clinically used for serious infections.
Ticarcillin disodium is often used in combination therapy with clavulanate potassium or sulbactam sodium to enhance its antibacterial activity and reduce the risk of bacterial resistance. These combinations are commonly used for variety of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and sepsis. The most commonly used combinations are ticarcillin disodium/clavulanate potassium and ticarcillin disodium/sulbactam sodium.
